Rhema to help with fireworks losses
Broken Arrow, Oklahoma
(Tulsa World, July 6) Rhema Bible Church will help pay for a missions trip by the First Church of the Nazarene in Broken Arrow after the church's fundraising operation was shut down by the city of Tulsa.
"Our children's pastor, Eric Macomber, has been notified by Rhema that they will present a gift to our church on Monday from the proceeds of an offering received during the Fireworks over Rhema celebration," said Cindie Marshall, spokesman for the Nazarene church.
The amount of the gift has not been disclosed.
Last week, Tulsa officials effectively shut down a fireworks stand that the Nazarene church was using as a fundraiser by threatening to confiscate any fireworks purchased there.

Trevecca Nazarene helps young missionaries help Nashville
Nashville, Tennessee
(The Tennessean, July 5) Some Nashville charities are getting 400 extra pairs of hands this week as Trevecca Nazarene University hosts youth groups from 10 states.
It’s the first year for Mission Nashville, said Heather Daugherty, Trevecca’s director of church services, and students from incoming seventh graders to new high school graduates were invited to live and worship at the university and work in the community.
On Wednesday, the students threw a Fourth of July carnival for residents of Napier Place, a public housing community close to the university. On other days, they worked in a community garden, food bank or retirement home. They experienced a poverty simulation – taking roles as members of a low-income family and figuring out how to get food, utilities and shelter despite difficult circumstances.

Soccer camp emphasizes skills, virtues, fun
Creswell, Oregon
(The Creswell Chronicle, July 3) Cooler weather than last year and the occasional drizzle kept heat stress at bay as approximately 85 young players participated in the annual Youth Soccer Camp hosted by Creswell Church of the Nazarene from June 25 through 29.
Run by Northwest Christian University head soccer coach Brett Bentley, his assistant coaches and players, and local volunteers, the camp began at 5:30 p.m. and ended at 7:30 p.m. each evening, and was open to boys and girls ages four to 14.
Campers were divided into two age groups on two separate fields behind Creswell Faith Center, with Church of the Nazarene Pastor Stacey Hanson teaching basic dribbling and passing skills to younger campers while Bentley and his players led warm-up and conditioning exercises and ran offensive/defensive drills for older campers.

Church congregants repainting Johnstown's fire hydrants
Johnstown, Ohio
(ThisWeek Community News, June 29) Two local churches are out painting the town red - literally.
Congregants from Johnstown Christian Church and New Albany First Church of the Nazarene are repainting hundreds of fire hydrants across Johnstown.
Service director Jack Liggett said the village has more than 400 hydrants, and although employees try to paint the hydrants every year, it's difficult to complete the project when prioritizing work orders. He said village officials are grateful that the two churches are helping fill the void.
